About this project

The challenge

The pool sits half below grade, so the surround, the access stairs and the deck framing all had to be planned around the pool’s finished height instead of the ground.

How we built it

The deck was built at rim height so you step out of the water onto a flat surface. A stepped stair leads down to the yard.

Scope of work

  • Site preparation and a leveled pool base
  • Oval pool, 15′ × 33′, 54″ deep, set half in the ground
  • Wood deck, about 500 sq ft, at pool rim height
  • Stepped stairs from the deck down to the yard

Materials

  • Pressure-treated framing
  • Wood decking
  • Structural, corrosion-resistant fasteners

Modeled before it was built

This project was drawn as a 3D model first — pool position, deck height, stair placement and the walking route around the water.

Open the model and drag to rotate it.
